When I first started, a common question was “Why don’t you take insurance?” or “Do you take insurance?” I haven’t received that as much now that more people know how I operate here. I have wanted to address why you don’t want me to take insurance.
The reasons I do not take insurance serve you. One of them is, I’ve talked about this before, I have a money back guarantee, and you don’t see that a lot in healthcare, because that does not work with insurance. So when you first come in with a chronic problem, something that’s been hurting for a while, we will work with you for a period of time, and it’s rather intense in those first several weeks, and we are really trying to restructure the body and get it to where it’ll start healing. And at the end of that first phase of care, if you are not where you had hoped to be, you let me know. You say “hey, thanks doc, but no thanks,” and I give you your money back from that. I cannot give you your time back, but I give you your money back. I could not do that with insurance. So that is the first reason you do not want me to take insurance is you are protected by a money-back guarantee.
The second reason is I see people for a period of time. It’s not a matter of you need to see me four times, or six times, or eight times, it’s a matter of your body needs time to heal. So when I see people for a phase of care, there is a period of time and not a certain number of visits. And if something happens during that time, someone trips or falls off the stool or a headache is setting in at some weird time, they need to come in, then we’re not charging more because I saw them one or two more times than they planned. You paid for a period of time, not a certain number of visits. Again, I could not do that with insurance.
Insurance is just so linear, by the book, and numerical. So, the things I do are different. You know, I grew up loving Arby’s and “Different is Good.” I would use that for my logo but I think Arby’s would sue me. So different is good here. And those are the reasons it is good that I do not take insurance. Money-back guarantee, and you are paying for a period of time where you are not charged more if you come in more.
